Hi.

Our thumbs are basically numb from texting back and forth 24/7 about everything we love (AND HATE) that's happening on our televisions, iPads, and eye glasses (hi, we think we're funny) and we thought WHY NOT SHARE THIS JOY WITH THE WORLD?!

Hey, girl! It's summer and we know you like a summer project. YOU KNOW WE DO, ANYWAY. We came up with a little somethin' to keep you busy between standing naked in front of your fridge and slathering your derriere with aloe vera. WE'RE STARTING A BOOK CLUB, HEAUXS! We know, WE KNOW ... How's the saying go? Book clubs are like assholes, everybody's got one?

Whatever. You don't need to get scared. We aren't gonna make you sweat or wrinkle your brow or anything. You're already doing plenty of that. You're probably already in a book club (or two) and we're sure it sounded like a great idea when you joined but now it's like an albatross around your neck because those bitches actually expect you to read the damn book and like, ask questions and stay awake and you've got a life, ya know? Fuck all that. LET'S HAVE FUN!

a good book and a good throw, who needs more?

a good book and a good throw, who needs more?

We started HEAUXS to celebrate all the things we love—books, movies, TV, celebrities, OPRAH—and our guiding principles have been that it's about smart discussion about not so important things, humor, feminist and LGBTQIA perspectives, and no pressure. So Read For Filth will follow that exact model: no meetings, no enforced discussions, you never have to spend even a second thinking about something smart to say, read the book or don't even read it. Check out the commentary or don't. Whatever you want to do, we're gonna be here and you're invited.

Join Read for Filth's Facebook group, invite your friends, and get your ass to the bookstore because here are our summer book picks:

JUNE / ROSEANNE: MY LIFE AS A WOMAN BY ROSEANNE BARR

roseanne.jpg

Picked by Adrienne: "I chose this book because Roseanne is a goddamned queen and there’s a ton you probably don’t know about her. Like she’s a Jewish gal from Salt Lake City. Like her grandmother survived the Holocaust and that horror deeply affected Roseanne. Like she spent a year in a mental institution as a kid. Roseanne is the best sitcom of the 90s (fight me) and it’s coming back, so this is the moment, this is the time for Roseanne the memoir. Also, you can buy this book for literally 30 cents on Amazon."

JULY / THE THORN BIRDS BY COLLEEN MCCULLOUGH

Picked by Jeremy: "I sometimes dream of what it was like to be a super carefree house wife from the 70s/80s. What were they doing without the internet? They were obsessed with this book, THAT'S WHAT. I wanna hark back to a simpler time and do it like my grandma did... and read this book. If it's good enough for Mamaw Owens, IT'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME."

AUGUST / THE ROBBER BRIDE BY MARGARET ATWOOD

Picked by Zane: "I read this book in eighth grade and don't remember anything about it except a character's description of indoor swimming pools. But when I read the Amazon description, it basically sounds like Witches of Eastwick with a lady devil. Also a character's name starts with a Z. Also, it's St. Atwood, but trashy."
